Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar's visit to the United States witnessed a strategic signing ceremony. Minister Bayraktar attended the signing ceremony between BOTAŞ and the US energy company ExxonMobil in Washington. BOTAŞ General Manager Abdulvahit Fidan and ExxonMobil LNG Global President Matthew R. Chandler inked the cooperation agreement. With the concerned agreement, Turkey plans to receive up to 2.5 million tons of LNG every year for 10 years.

In his social media post on the subject, Minister Bayraktar said, “We signed a cooperation agreement on LNG trade between BOTAŞ and ExxonMobil in Washington, where we came to make various contacts. The USA is one of the important countries we already receive LNG from. With this agreement, which is planned to be long-term, we are taking another step in diversifying our resources. We are among the top few countries in the world with our re-gasification capacity. We will continue to contribute to the energy supply security of both our country and our region.”

 

Energy Relations on the Table

During his program in the US, Minister Bayraktar met with members of the Caspian Policy Center Board of Directors and evaluated energy relations between Turkey and the US. Bayraktar also had a meeting with Senator Joe Manchin, Chairman of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee representing the state of West Virginia, and discussed the topics that will improve the relations between the two countries.

 

Energy and Climate Dialogue

Minister also met with US Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm. During the meeting, the Energy and Climate Dialogue Program was launched between the two countries. The meeting was also the first meeting of the Dialogue Program. In the Dialogue Program, which will be chaired by the ministers of the two countries, working groups will hold meetings at certain intervals.

 

Public and Private Sectors Will Meet

With the Dialogue, the steps that need to be taken jointly to develop energy cooperation between Turkey and the USA will be discussed and activities will be carried out in this direction. In addition, public and private sector representatives of the two countries will be brought together.

 

Meeting with the Romanian Foreign Minister

Minister Bayraktar also had a meeting with Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminita Odobescu and evaluated the ongoing cooperation between the two countries in the field of natural gas trade and new projects that can be realized in the field of renewable energy (BOTAŞ).
